General Information Get your CPE with the best!
Continuing Education Credit
Colorado has enacted Continuing Professional Education requirements for CPAs, attorneys, and
real estate professionals as a condition for license renewal. The programs described in this catalog
are designed to comply with the Statement on Standards for Formal Group Study Programs
published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. All programs offered
have been approved by the State of Colorado Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal
Education for attorneys. All programs are also approved for enrolled agents.
Courses in real estate, business valuation, estate and gift taxation, and like-kind exchanges have been submitted to the Colorado Division of Real Estate for real estate continuing education credit. The Graduate Tax Program is now registered as a CE sponsor with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and more than 50 financial planning, insurance, employee benefits, investment, retirement and estate planning, and tax planning courses meet the requirements for CFP credit. Participants must supply the GTP with their CFP license number in order for their attendance to be reported to the CFP Board. Courses eligible for real estate and/or CFP credit are noted in the course description under "Recommended Credit Hours."
The Graduate Tax Program
does not provide continuing education certification for the Colorado Division of Insurance.
Accountant's Education Services / University of Denver Graduate Tax Program is registered
with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing
professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of
accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be addressed to National Registry of CPE Sponsors, 150 Fourth
Avenue North, Suite 700, Nashville, TN 37219-2417. Web site: www.nasba.org. |
Level of Knowledge
Each program is categorized by the following levels of knowledge:
- Basic programs are designed to provide introductory knowledge of essential principles and
skills. Such programs are designed for entry-level practitioners or practitioners who are unfamiliar
with the subject area.
- Intermediate programs are designed to strengthen proficiency in a subject area. To obtain
full benefit from intermediate programs, participants should have some experience in dealing
with the topics covered.
- Advanced programs are designed to build upon a solid working knowledge of a subject area.
These programs presume proficiency in the subject and are intended to provide specialized
learning, while increasing participants' ability to deal with complex issues. To obtain full
benefit from advanced programs, prior experience is essential.
- Update conferences are designed to provide information about how a subject area is changing
or to analyze broader aspects. To obtain full benefit from update programs, participants
should have a basic understanding of the subject as well as prior experience.
Advance Preparation
All GTP programs have been developed to require no advance preparation. Materials are not
available before the day of the program.
Program Evaluations
Participant evaluation forms are distributed at each program. We strongly urge each
participant to complete the evaluation form. The
results assist in determining the quality of the course materials and the effectiveness of the discussion
leader, as well as in meeting the standards for continuing education programs. |

Fees/Discounts
Registration fees are $250 for one full-day course and $125 for one half-day course. Registration
fees include breaks and materials. In order to keep fees to a minimum, lunch is not included. "CPE for a Quarter" (a master's degree class taken for CPE
credit instead of for academic credit) costs $750 for each ten-week course, which does not
include materials.
The two-hour Ethics in Tax Practice and Colorado Rules and Regulations programs cost
$65 each. The Ethics in Tax Practice self-study course is $80 (plus $15 shipping for orders outside
the continental U.S.). To order the self study, send payment and the completed registration
form with "ESS" as the program title. The self-study quiz must be submitted for grading within one year of receipt.
For information about other self-study courses, see AES Self-Study Webpages or call 303-871-6239 and
request a self-study catalog.
Discounts
Discounts are available when the participant registers for more than one program at the same
time. Multi-program registration discounts are as follows: two full-day programs cost $225
each; three or more full-day programs cost $175 each. All discounts are available on a per-participant
basis, and only if the participant registers for all programs at the same time.
Half-day programs cost half the applicable full-day rate. Early
birds: Individual participants registering by June 15, 2009, for four or more full-day programs
pay just $145 for a full-day class and $72.50 for a half-day class. You may register for "credits" and choose the classes later.
The PASS
The PASS is available for individuals who wish to attend an unlimited number of CPE programs
during the year for a fixed rate. If purchased by June 15, 2009, the PASS costs $975; after June
15, 2009, the cost is $1,400. PASS fees are nonrefundable. Participants must pre-register for classes at least one week in
advance and be prepared to present their PASS and a photo ID at class check-in. Participants
must come to class to receive the course materials. All live classes described in this catalog
are included in the PASS, but space is not guaranteed; registrations are taken on a "first come,
first served" basis. Self-study courses are not included in the PASS. Firms interested in
a flat-rate corporate PASS for all their employees should contact Linda Browning at 303-871-
6239 by June 30, 2009, for pricing. |

Cancellations
Cancellation and Transfer Policy
Cancellations or transfers received three (3) or more business days prior to the program: 100% refund/credit. Cancellations or transfers received within two (2) business days prior to
the program: 90% refund/credit. Cancellations or transfers received one (1) day prior to the
program or no notice of cancellation: no refund, credit, or transfer allowed, but participants
may pick up the course materials in the Graduate Tax Program office. For partial cancellations
of multi-program purchases, only the incremental excess over regular full-day rates will be
refunded. Only a credit, not a refund, will be allowed for cancellation of a course which has already been transferred from the original registration. Please allow six to eight weeks for a refund to be processed.
In cases where the Graduate Tax Program must cancel a course, each registered participant
will be notified via telephone at least 24 hours prior to the class, and a full refund or credit
toward a future program will be available (except that PASS participants are not entitled to refunds or future-year credits). In cases of inclement weather, seminars will not be
held if the entire University of Denver is closed -- call 303-871-6239 or check the closure
announcements on Denver TV or radio stations.
